"A child’s learning environment should be safe, creative, warm and stimulating. Our approach to early childhood and elementary education is to enhance your child’s knowledge of his or her growth and learning skills in a supportive atmosphere important for individual development. Our primary goal is to provide a personal and unique experience for each child. Our main concern is to enrich the intellectual, physical, social and personal values and skills your child is now forming”.
All of our programs include:
Convenient hours: Full day, partial week, half days (mornings or afternoons), are available. All of our early childhood programs also offer extended hours at no additional cost. JFH Grade School offers a full academic day with optional extended hours. Meals & Snacks: Because we know how important good nutrition is for your child, all our nutritionally balanced hot lunches are developed by a professional dietician. Each child also receives a morning and afternoon snack. Here is a sampling of the “Thinking Kids Garden of Eating” menu. All menus are posted in the school and menu exceptions can be arranged for medical and religious reasons. Keeping Families Connected Newsletters: You will receive a monthly newsletter from JFH administrative offices and separately from your child’s classroom teacher. The newsletters keep you informed of upcoming events and highlight each month’s activities. Parent Center Boards keep you informed of your child’s daily activities. You’ll find class schedules, lunch and nap charts and the “Today We…….” update. We know that when asked what they did in school today, children often say… “we played!” To learn exactly what activities your child enjoyed on a particular day, we encourage you to check the “Today We...” section on the Parent Board. This lets you in on their day and allows you to reinforce your child’s learning with home and family activities. We encourage you to meet with your child’s teacher twice a year. Four report cards are sent home throughout the year. Scheduled parent/teacher conferences are held in spring and fall but they can be requested as often as you or the teacher feels is beneficial for your child. Calls to teachers: If you would like to speak to your child’s teacher, the best times to call are:
Family Pictures: We ask you to send several family pictures to display in the classroom to help your child make the transition from home to school. Children like to look at familiar photos, especially when they are first beginning their schooling. Professional photographers take school pictures every fall and spring. There is no charge for the sitting, and you have the opportunity to purchase photos if you’d like. Birthdays: We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday at school. Please talk to us ahead of time so we can plan for their special day. Visits: While the best time to plan to visit your child’s room to observe is between 9:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., the school is always open for you to visit. Vision and Hearing screenings: Conducted at scheduled times during the year. As a popular convenience, our Prospect Heights location also offers “Haircut Day”.
