Prevent Your Entire Family from Getting Sick

Every family dreads when one family member gets a nasty cold or flu…if one get sick, they all are bound to, right? Not necessarily. There are ways to prevent the entire family from contracting the nasty bug going around your home. With winter [slowly] coming to an end and spring in the near [yet distant] future, now is the time to get your family geared up before the change of weather hits and sickness seems to be at an all-time high.

  • Wash those hands! This simple preventative step can dramatically decrease the chances of your entire family getting sick when your spouse or child is sick. According to the CDC, around 80% of infectious diseases are spread by touch – first the hands, and then spread to the eyes and mouth. Wash the hands after the nose is blown, coughs are coughed, sneezes are sneezed, etc. Use soap and water and wash hands for at least 20 seconds. Keep hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol) in different areas of the house (but out of reach of little ones) for quick sanitizing power. Warning: Avoid Using hand sanitizer on little children because it’s highly toxic. Keep out of reach from them.
  • Conceal your nose and mouth! Many use their hands to catch a cough or sneeze, but this usually just causes more germs to be spread more quickly through touch (and if hands are not washed quickly after). Use the inner elbow or tissue to cover a cough or sneeze – and wash hands for an added preventative measure.
  • Disinfect! Use sanitizing Clorox wipes (or another form of sanitation) to disinfect door knobs, counter tops, toys, remote controls, tables, pretty much anywhere infected hands may touch. Of course, you can’t completely sterilize your home but be mindful of the places you wouldn’t normally think germs to be.
  • Eat your vitamins! Load up on even more fruits and veggies than your family normally does to give an extra boost to each of your body’s immune systems.
